Joe Calhoun passed along this “mildly” entertaining piece of analysis. From the Economic Times:
German unemployment jumped unexpectedly in May by the largest amount in several years, a rise the Labour Office attributed to mild winter weather.
It seems the global economy just can’t win. Too cold, and the economy suffers. Too mild, and the economy suffers. If we ever get just the right amount of climate one of these days, watch out! That raises an “important” issue for policy. Perhaps Janet Yellen might consider stepping down. That would open the door for the next Fed chief to be, crucially it seems, a meteorologist or even just a TV weatherperson.
